Born in Nature
Each of the stories that we create in the present is infused with the spirit of the past, the rich heritage of the land we are on. In times gone by, the site was home to a bustling fishing village where experienced divers would brave the depths to find precious pearls as their fellow divers would spur them on with melodic ballads still beloved today. Soon, this peaceful town became a place for fishermen and pearl divers in the western region of the UAE to meet, a true community of the country’s early inhabitants.
But today, we are reclaiming the area for more than just a community of curious, conscious travellers. Thanks to the UNESCO-declared Marawah Marine Biosphere Reserve in the area, we are able to help in the protection of habitats including Seagrass, mangroves, coral reefs, coastal sabkhas, rocky seashores, sandy shores and rocky ridges. The reserve is also vitally important as it is a shelter and feeding ground for the vulnerable dugongs, hawksbill sea turtles and many migratory birds.
Our biosphere project and sustainability programmes have reinvigorated the land’s ecosystem through the careful planting of indigenous plants and reintroduction of the indigenous animals that once roamed free. We are as committed to ensuring that they thrive as we are to our campers.
